There are an awful lot of problems in the world today, and some of them seem insurmountable: war, famine, disease and poverty, just to name a few. However, as terrible as these difficulties are, they are not the worst, for that distinction belongs to sin. Yes, sin is mankind’s greatest enemy – his greatest obstacle to eternal life.
What makes sin so terrible, one might ask? Its horrors are numerous and its consequences lethal. Sin destroys quality of life and brings destruction upon upon the nation, the home and soul of every person who leaves it unchecked in his or her life. Paul said, “For the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23). Sin hurts; it can cost us our innocence. Sin robs of us joy and peace and can sever precious relationships, both in the home and in the body of Christ. Living in sin can lead to paranoia, irrational behavior and addiction. Sin is self-serving, leaving us battered, bruised and broken. Sin, if left unchecked, leaves us empty, ashamed, helpless, hopeless and guilt-ridden.
Question: Is there anything available, at all, that can heal us spiritually and lighten the devastating consequences of sin? Yes, there is, and the Bible makes that fact abundantly clear. What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus! Peter taught us through inspiration of the Holy Spirit that we are redeemed by the blood of Christ (I Peter 1:18-19), with Paul echoing those sentiments in Ephesians 1:7. Only the precious blood of Christ can save us from our sins. Obey Him today and be saved!
