When reading God's word, try slowing down.

Give yourself time to meditate on God's word

Many times we study or read God's word using one of the following methods. One method is to take a verse and closely examine each word or the key words in the passage. Other times we are desiring to read a certain amount of scripture like 5 chapters a day or following a yearly reading plan.

Try another method. Slowly read your Bible. Take time to examine the key message of a text. Once you understand the message, then think (meditate) on what that message means. Look for and think about key terms and topics, like hope, love, mercy, grace. Then take time to pray to God about the message and information in the text to help you be better at them or for others that may need help in their situations.

Paul told us he had successfully run the race. Don't see your study time as a race. Slow down, meditate, and pray.
